The book explores the problem of power and consistently establishes the universal procedure that underlies it, allowing it to be discerned in a wide variety of contexts. It uses the problem of the body as a theoretical framework, which has historically accompanied all discourses on power that have conceptualized it from a critical perspective.
This interdisciplinary study was conducted using extensive historical, aesthetic, and theoretical material, including sources previously unknown in the Russian-speaking world or never considered from the proposed perspective.
The events of socio-political history and its artistic reflection in film, prose and poetry, medieval theology and protest movements, religious sectarianism and gender theory, counterculture and decolonial perspective, the existential status of animals and the trajectory of scientific and technological progress – all this constitutes the horizon within which the philosophical concept of the book “Power and the Body” is constructed.
The book is based on Maria Rakhmaninova’s doctoral dissertation, “From the Epistemology of Power to the Ontology of the Body: A Socio-Philosophical Analysis.”
