Illustrator Roman Belyaev lives and works in Moscow. He has worked extensively in advertising and advertising design, including character design and film posters. He graduated from the British Higher School of Art and Design in illustration and defended his thesis on "Unobvious Moscow Sights". He works in mixed media, combining pencil drawing, paints and computer technology.
His first book, How Does a Lighthouse Work?, has already been published in Germany and the UK, where it won the STEAM Children's book prize for the most informative children's publication.
"My main criterion is that the reader should not get bored. If a book has a smooth rhythm, it should be broken a couple of times by some unexpected (visually or semantically) turns. And of course, I try to saturate the picture with some details, create a second level of perception, so that it would be interesting to review the book a second and third time ."
