Anna Narinskaya: "This book consists almost entirely of articles written since my emigration from Russia. The exception is the essays dedicated to my friend, the poet Grigory Dashevsky—a man who knew how to distinguish good from evil. In the time since his death in 2013, this rare quality has become even more important, and Grisha's absence even more glaring.
For the most part, these are journalistic texts that attempt to somehow reassemble the fragments that have become my picture of life after February 2022, and that of many of my friends (sometimes I dare speak for more than just myself). They were written for different occasions and different publications, but some themes, and even some illustrative examples and quotes, are repeated from text to text.
While collecting texts, I almost always kept these repetitions. I think this obsession itself is a symptom of post-catastrophic existence and thinking, and perhaps itself represents an account of what is happening."
