Every day, right at breakfast, power enters our lives. And where there is power, there is politics. Conversations about politics are always a delicate balance, especially with children. Children overhear snippets of adult conversations, reinterpret them in their own way, and discuss them among themselves. This book will help children understand what is happening and why. Its simple language, humor, and illustrations make complex political issues understandable.
A carton of milk lists its ingredients, its producer, and its expiration date. This information should be on every food package. This means the government has meddled with the milk: the producer himself might have wanted to write something different on the packaging. Even the fact that clocks now show the time they do is the result of some government's actions.
Power is always and everywhere. It doesn't matter what we do or where we are. Power never sleeps, even when we sleep. And politics is the activity associated with the exercise of power...
From this book you will learn:
What is power and how to get it?
Is democracy the best way to govern?
Why do we need a state?
Where does the state get money and why is there so much of it?
What does the Constitution protect against and why is it so important?
How to exercise your rights?
