Being a Chechen: Peace and War through the Eyes of Schoolchildren

This book brings together works by Chechen schoolchildren dedicated to the past and present of Chechnya and reflecting the authors' personal experiences, their family histories, and the fates of various individuals against the backdrop of Chechen history. The works were selected from among the essays submitted by high school students to the annual All-Russian historical competition of the Memorial Society, "Man in History. Russia in the 20th Century," in 2003/2004. The book also includes essays by four Russian schoolchildren dedicated to the fates of Chechen refugees in Russia.
