Vilnius's Old Town, as it turns out, has one hundred and forty-seven streets, alleys, squares, markets, and bridges. Knowing the nature of our city, we have no doubt this number will change many times. Something appears and disappears here almost daily, yet everyone thinks it's always been that way—that's one of the rules of our secret, everyday game. Nevertheless, this is the final, seventh volume of "Tales of Old Vilnius"; let's say that in the great celestial lottery, the city and I have randomly drawn the number one hundred and forty-seven, and we've certainly hit the jackpot. And we're determined to party.
