Tove Jansson. The Summer Book

This book, in addition to Tove Jansson's only novel, "City of the Sun," about a carefree old age on the coast, and the poignant novella "The Summer Book," about a girl who loses her mother, as well as short stories and novellas already familiar to Russian readers, also includes works translated into Russian for the first time. The northern atmosphere of the diary "Notes from an Island," dedicated to the construction of a house on Klovharun and life there, creates the effect of being on an island pierced by the winds of the Gulf of Finland and filled with the cries of seagulls, unceremoniously intruding on the settlers' lives. And under the general title "Boulevard and Other Texts," lies a series of Jansson's early short stories and essays, published in periodicals throughout her career. In them, Tove describes what it's like to be a children's writer, reflects on painting, and criticizes architecture for its potential to make people unhappy.
And through all this diversity of texts, the depth and character of the famous writer is fully revealed.
