In the universe of Ursula Le Guin's Hain series, Earth is one of many colonies created by Progressors from the planet Hain and left unattended for long periods. Such as the closed-to-contact world of Rocannon. Or the third planet of Gamma Draconis, a planet of exile, with implacable native tribes fighting the colonists. Or the planet Winter, where the lives of its inhabitants depend directly on the lunar cycles... Each world has its own mysteries, its own problems, its own heroes. The only common thread that unites the works of the series is the author's belief that not hatred, but the power of love and the ethic of non-interference in the affairs of disparate civilizations can unite worlds and merge peoples into a future union of Ecumenism.
Most of the works in the series have won Hugo, Nebula, and other prestigious science fiction awards.
