“Children grow up in the fields between the two smallest turnips,” says the hare.
"Between what? Two tiny turnips?" asks the magpie. "It's as simple as pie: you lay an egg and hatch it."
"What are you saying... In cases like this, you sprinkle sugar on the windowsill and wait for the stork to arrive," the salmon smiles slyly.

Illustrator Wolf Erlbruch is a renowned author and winner of the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Prize (2010), the Gutenberg Prize, and the Hans Christian Andersen Prize (2006). Erlbruch is considered uniquely skilled at communicating with children about difficult and dark topics. Erlbruch was born in 1948. His first children's book was published in 1985. Since then, Erlbruch has written more than 10 books, including "The Duck, Death, and the Tulip," "The Bear's Miracle," "Leonard," and "Frau Meier's Blackbird," and has illustrated nearly 50 other projects. This includes Werner Holzwarth's international bestseller "The Little Mole Who Wanted to Know Who Peed on His Head."
The jury of the Astrid Lindgren Prize called him a "caring visionary" who "makes existential questions accessible to readers of all ages." Prize director Boel Westin noted that Erlbruch "expands the boundaries of what a children's book can be. He opens up new perspectives. A very honest illustrator."
